Addis Ababa Police Commission announced that the suspects who stole more than one million birr worth of gold in police uniforms have been arrested.
A private victim, Abel Assefa, told police at around 12 noon on November 4, 2013 EC they had come to his home in Arada Sub-City, Woreda 6, near the Ras Mekonnen Bridge, and asked him to open the door for them and I denied opening without verifying their identities and without informing my family. They said they needed additional power, and they returned.
However, after the victim, Abel went to work, the suspects returned at 9:00 (Local time, day)., dressed in police uniforms and armed with pistols. According to a private victim, they stole gold jewelry worth one million three hundred thousand birr and loaded it with a pickup truck with license plate number 4-20411 AA.
Arada Sub-City Police Department, Chief Inspector of the Janmeda Area Police Station, Lt. Ayehu Kebede, said the station had established an investigation team and coordinated with the Addis Ababa Police Commission's monitoring unit.
During the day and night raids, five suspects were arrested, police uniforms, pistols, chains and knives were seized, and police searched for their whereabouts. Inspector Kebede said he saw a change. He recalled that the stolen gold was sold to another person for 600,000 birr. Abel Assefa, a private victim, said he was pleased with the work of the police, who worked tirelessly day and night to apprehend the suspects.
The inspector general said that the investigation is being carried out in an organized manner. He said the public should check their identities and report any suspicious incidents to the public by asking for identification or by calling the police station, as there are individuals who are not wearing police uniforms and committing crimes to disrupt the security of our city.
It is to be recalled that the Addis Ababa Police Commission has urged to identify the individuals who wear security uniforms to go to various houses and institutions for business purposes.
